Blackies in the snow by Susan Mitchell
A group of black-faced sheep on a snow-laden hillside in the Scottish Borders. Well adapted to the hard conditions, their thick lanolin laden coats repelling the damp.
etchings
Etchings - these are created by scratching lines through a resistant layer on metal plates, then burning away the metal below with acid. The result is a plate that can be inked and pressed onto paper. Take a look at Susan Mitchell's photo under the "exhibiting artists" link, and you can see the size of press used.

Susan Mitchell was kind enough to write me a few notes on the process of etching, but I have temporarily mislaid - Susan, can I have another copy please?
