This oil painting on canvas is a very expressive rendering through colour and thick paint of a popular 'music bar' in Arbroath, Angus. This striking image includes paint applied by brush, palette knife and finger. The figures are inspired by L.S. Lowry and have a semi-primitive quality. The subject is a well known venue for musicians notably fiddlers and accordionists. Traditional scottish music is played in a quaint informal setting. The frame is simple lathing painted black.

oils
Oil paints are created by mixing ground pigment with oils. This gives them a long working time, as the oil does not readily dry out. Thinners are used to disolve the paints and make them flow, but they also dry quicker and can make the paint crack.
