Edinburgh from Prince's Street by Terry Devonald
This picture will remind anyone who has strolled down Prince's Street on a chilly early Winter's day of the flats which overlook the Royal Mile, just next to the Castle.
The paints used for watercolours gain much of their lightness from their transparency and revealing the underlying paper - you add light to a watercolour painting by using thinner washes, unlike opaque paints such as oils, where a highlight can be created by using a lighter colour.
