I am a freelance artist living in Southern California. I own my art business, 'Helen's Studio' which offers paintings in watercolor, mixed media and oils.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley and am a signature member of the National Watercolor Society and a juried member of Watercolor West (a transparent watercolor society).
I enter numerous art competitions each year and have been honored to receive several awards for my work.
In my artwork I continue to be fascinated with unusual plant and tree images, as well as some animal and architectural forms. In addition I occasionally experiment with abstract and collage studies. Often I focus on a small section of an image and enlarge it to create an interesting composition with more abstract shapes. I am inspired by our California light with its rich shadows, so my work often conveys bold color and contrast.
Currently I am painting both in oils and watercolor, sometimes also adding water-soluble crayons and colored pencil. Working in these very different media can be challenging and rewarding! I hope viewers will enjoy my artwork as much as I do creating it.
