contact DETAILS
Sula was born in Trinidad in the West Indies and came to England in the 1960s to nurse. She has had a lifelong interest in painting and having brought up a family and retired from nursing, she is now pursuing new aims in art.
Her paintings show the life of the Caribbean in representations of the colours, rhythms and warmth of the region’s culture and landscape. The subjects of her recent work include the seascapes of the Caribbean coast, the flora and fauna of the tropical rainforest, and the exuberance of Carnival.
Sula’s aim is to achieve an immediate connection with the observer, and she paints in a naïve style as the best replication of the wonder of childhood’s first impressions of colours and shapes.
Vibrancy of colour is always in Sula’s mind when she selects subjects and the means of their execution.
